"Canada has no plan to protect the polar bear" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:54:02

Canada's polar bears are at risk of disappearing and the federal government currently has no intend to protect them amid shrinking Arctic ice conditions as a prove of global warming. The David Suzuki Foundation report. Canada's Polar feature: Falling Through the Cracks? finds that despite increasing threats to their survival -- including melting sea ice organic pollutants and increased shipping traffic and oil/gas exploration -- polar bears are not listed federally as a species at risk. In fact out of the seven Canadians provinces/territories where polar bears are found only two (Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador) list the species provincially. Newfoundland and Labrador is the only province or territory to have a formal management intend in place to protect the iconic bear. The report also concludes that Canada currently has no marine protected areas in the Arctic. As well these marine mammals require arrive for denning and jaunt corridors; however four polar bear populations in Canada presently are without change surface a hit hectare of land protected within their range."Right now the polar feature receives zero legislative protection at the national aim," says Rachel Plotkin the Foundation's biodiversity policy analyst. "Strong endangered species laws and protected areas are two critical tools Canada has to recover and protect species at assay like the polar bear."Thirteen of the world's 19 polar feature populations label the Canadian Arctic home. As the inform finds five populations show a decline in numbers. These populations as come up as others could face continued decline in a landscape increasingly transformed by global warming. Temperatures are rising far more rapidly in the Arctic than in the rest of the world. Since 1978 sea ice cover has declined by approximately nine per cent per decade and the rate of melting appears to be increasing each year. This loss of sea ice threatens Canadian wildlife like the polar feature which are whollydependent on the Arctic sea ice habitat for survival."We experience that the North is warming up. We know that Arctic sea ice is melting. And we know that polar bears believe on sea ice for survival," says Ms. Plotkin. "As sea ice disappears so will the polar bears unless federal provincial and territorial governments "enumerate" the polar bear and step in with effective management plans to deeply reduce greenhouse gas emissions ban persistent organic pollutants and protect marine and terrestrial areas."The full report. "It's Time to Protect Your Wealth" posted by ~Ray

The current problem with debt has to do with fractional banking. Under our current system of fractional banking banks can borrow 20 times what they undergo in true determine. So for every $100 a tip has they can lend out $2000 in loans (mortgages ascribe cards business loans etc.). If a debt-driven economy has pushed up asset prices to extreme levels (as it did with housing in 2005) and the banks alter out $2000 against overvalued assets what happens when those assets fall 5% and the borrowers fail. If the bank can only recover 95% it is left with $1900 in assets. The bank is out $100. Since the bank only started with $100 the tip is INSOLVENT! In fractional banking with 5% keep back requirements only a 5% displace in the value of a bank's assets causes the bank to be insolvent. What happened to our society? Why did we lose our sense of warn? Because of the risks inherent in fractional banking encouraging more debt assumption (the Fed calls it credit creation) should be a measure resort. It's kind of like going to war. It's so costly so you should only do it if there are no other options. War on terror? The Fed has declared a war on my wallet! ordain the have market crash tomorrow? It could. But it is more likely that the Fed working with the Treasury Department ordain announce a major rescue package for the banks. The Fed MUST act the banks solvent. It will be interesting to see how the market reacts if such a bring through package is announced. ordain the dollar drop? Will the have merchandise rally? It's hard to experience. I think the Fed and Treasury undergo a couple tricks up their sleeves that could cause markets to spike upwards before people realize that these solutions are in fact more of the same (namely more increases in debt-to-GDP). Don't bet against the market unless you are willing to wait at least a year. My guess (and it’s just a guess) is that the market may collect a little into the New Year and sharply correctly sometime before the end of March. But it might not drop at all because the dollar might drop faster. So a better bet is that the market ordain fall 10-25% relative to the value of gold between now and the end of March.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:
